Gargano: holiday by the sea at Vieste

The Gargano or Sun Mountain, is a world of crystal clear seas, green forests, golden beaches, sea caves, the Tremiti Islands and towns full of history and culture. Breathtaking panoramas from Mattinata to Vieste and a stunning coastline with sea stacks at Baia Vignanotica and Baia delle Zagare. The windy road from Vieste to Peschici reveals many local characteristics, trabucchi (ancient wooden fishing platforms), sea caves and bays and then Peschici.  A clifftop jewel with little white houses shining under the sun that have earned the town the nickname of “Pearl of the Gargano”. Other places of interest include: San Giovanni Rotondo where you can visit the tomb of San Pio; Monte Sant’Angelo and the underground church the Santuario di San Michele; Vico del Gargano, doorway to the Foresta Umbra and home town of San Valentino; Lake Lesina and the nearby Lake Varano on the banks of which stands a church that houses a 14thC wooden cross which locals believe to have miraculous powers.
